Why Sunscreen is needed for the winter: Frezyderm Sun Screen Velvet review

With the sun now being lost behind clouds and the temperatures beginning to lower, many of us mistakenly put away the sunscreen for next summer. However, it is a highly common myth that sun protection is only needed when the sun can be seen.

While UVB’s rays are blocked by the clouds, a sunscreen is always needed as UVA’s are present and can penetrate through the clouds and rain, which ultimately damage the deeper layers of skin. Suncare is critical if you are or have been struggling with acne to ensure that scaring is limited.  When I was sent the Frezyderm Sun Screen Velvet to try, I was really excited to update my suncare in the winter months.

The main problem with sunscreen is it can never sit well under makeup, it will often create cakiness or affect the colour of your foundation. So when I heard that the Frezydurm Sunscreen was perfect for oily skin and a primer I was slightly sceptical.

Frezydurm Sunscreen velvet has a similar texture and effect to the Benefit porefessional primer as it does contain silicone. This is great as it will help reduce the appearance of my pores and create a smoothness overall. The mattifying finish of the Velvet sunscreen will absorb excess oil and sebum which is perfect for my oily skin.

The packaging for the whole range is unique test tube style with gold accents which will always look good. It got a twist top pump which I prefer for hygiene reasons, and it can be locked for travelling.

While I am not usually a fan of two in one products, this one is an exception to the rule. A product that protects you from the sun and minimises pores and oils will always be a winner in my books. This product does only last for 6 hours, so I tend not use it if I need my makeup to be lasting day and night. However, it is water resistant and has no white tint, so it is perfect for pictures.

The product is £17.50 which is actually pretty cheap considering all of its benefits and that it replaces a primer.
